Our Awards

Bandera has been successful in achieving a number of awards, all to-date in relation to sustainability and energy projects. Below are our two awards and the associated project. For any more information, or how to replicate a similar project. Please contact us and we will be happy to discuss how a similar project could work for you.

Bandera successfully won the contract to provide AkzoNobel with a new cooling and heating environment. Bandera worked with AkzoNobel and I-I-Ice to provide a sustainable water heating and cooling system. Bandera’s most successful and award winning project to date consists of the implementation of an Ammonia Plant which replaced 120 separate air conditioning units around AkzoNobel Headquarters building. The system is a four pipe heat pump plant, associated pipping and office space evaporators which provides heating and cooling to the building.

This innovative heating and cooling solution utilises one of the most efficient refrigerants Ammonia. Some key facts which supported our case for it’s use are:

  • Highest COP of all refrigerants
  • Global Warming Potential of Zero
  • Fewer injuries/fatalities in the last 100 years than CFC’s have had in 1 year
  • Proven sustainability more than twice that of CFC systems with a potential lifetime approaching 40 years
  • Dual Ammonia System offers heating and cooling year round compared to a Heat Pump and Boiler option
  • System is critically charged with <30 Kg of ammonia, well under the 50 Kg risk level
  • Automated detection and vent system minimizes risk to personnel in the building and to the immediate area.

This has resulted in a 96% cut in operating costs, equating to a substantial saving of £350,000 per annum. The system has a 30+ year lifespan making it a sustainable and environmentally friendly investment, with a payback of 4.8 years on energy costs.

Over the course of the next 5 years we will continue developing and rolling out this proven system across the UK with our system partners I-I-ICE.
